Ok, aren't you glad I am not complaining...........
I feel the need to share updates on Brock. Lamictal seems to be doing "something." There are still seizures, but I see more control. For instance, Brock was doing great but on Friday, April 29th, he had four seizures before noon! He ended up having another which set a new record of 5 in one day. But, that was right before he was due for an increase in Lamictal the next day. After we made that increase, he showed some improvement. He was still having some break-throughs, but the seizures were only about 10-20 seconds and mild. Friday the 13th, brought on a 40 second seizure that was a little more intense, and wouldn't you know, Brock was due for yet another dose increase the following day?!? I increased on Friday night, a day earlier than the proposed Saturday night and he seemed to have a great weekend. Sunday before lunch, he postured into a seizure, but then it never fully manifested into one. I didn't really want to count it, but it was noted on the calendar nevertheless.....
The increase of Lamictal is progressing a little faster now and we are currently up to 15 mg a day with the goal of 25 mg/day. I really want this to work and have Brock come off of one of his other seizure meds. Docs suggested discontinuing the Trileptal, but I'm asking to d.c. the Topamax, a.k.a. "Dopamax"! That drug wiped him out when it was first introduced, and even though he seems to have adjusted, I don't like the potential risk for kidney stones..... It will be trial and error and I suppose if Brock shows me he can't get rid of the Topamax, he will have the final say. :)
Overall Brock really seems to be doing good. We just had his IEP meeting at school last week and all (including me) were pleased with how he is progressing. We set some great communication goals and therapy goals for next year! I am just so thrilled with how he is doing at this school. Of course he has charmed the socks off of everyone he has encountered, and they each love my Brock-E.
Avery and Cora are getting anxious with the end of the school-year approaching. It has been VERY frustrating to tell them that shorts and T's are appropriate one day, but long pants and fleece jackets are needed the next.......
Recently, Avery has been visited by the tooth-fairy 3 times! Cora required her 2 bottom teeth to be pulled, earlier this year, but she is being encouraged to 'keep up with Avery' and wiggle out 2 more loose ones. ---Tooth fairy bills are much more pleasant than the dentist's bills!
Monday, May 23rd will be the girl's last full day of school. (Report card day is the 25th). Brock will have school until his last day on the 26th. Then the triplets will get to enjoy about 2 weeks of summer vacation until summer school begins! :):):) The girls just have 4 weeks, and only Monday-Thursday, of summer school. Brock, however, has 6 weeks of summer school! I am so happy he will be able to continue to interact with others and have some therapy time during the summer!
Below, I posted Avery and Cora's spring pictures from school. Brock didn't get a good fall school picture, and he was absent on the day of his spring pictures! :( I am always on a mission to capture that boy's smiley face on camera, so one day I'll get a good one of him.......
Until next time..................
