Last post, I wrote about Brock's seizure.....it was very timely that he had a previously scheduled Neurology appointment the following day. During that visit I was told that Brock's labs were not looking as good as sometimes. His platelets were lower, his ammonia level had increased, and his liver functions were showing some changes. Additionally, his Valproic Acid level was on the low side as was the Trileptal level. Blah, blah, blah....
Point being, we don't want to increase the Valproic Acid for fear it will stress the liver. Trileptal was increased slightly, and 2 new meds were introduced. Carnatine was added to help cleanse the ammonia from Brock's blood, and supposedly it sometimes it helps raise platelets levels. (We can see in a month when we do labs again!) Banzel is the evil drug we have been battling. Banzel was supposed to be a 'great' choice for Brock, shouldn't interact with the other meds, and 'has very few side effects.' Ha.
Brock showed problems after only a few doses! He was completely sedated from it and it made him nauseous and he vomited. I was all set to cancel the med entirely, but called the Dr. just to get that opinion. Their suggestion was to stick it out and give a call in a few days. Well, I did. More sickness, more vomiting...... more phonecalls....

Enough already! Brock got REALLY sick at school today and had a projectile moment. On my drive in to pick him up from school, I left a message for the Neuro. I made very clear my thoughts of Brock on Banzel. WE ARE DONE! I have given it about a week and I cannot have a boy sick and miserable. Besides the sickness, this has made Brock so dopey.
The boy is notorious for being a charmer with a fun personality. I am not going to let Banzel take that away. In fact, I preferred the HYPER boy of the Keppra days! Seizures are evil, but I have found that there are anti-seizure meds that are just as bad. :(
Brock's not the only one making me worry. AVERY and her ears......
Sunday morning I was combing Avery's hair for Sunday school and I noticed what I thought was wax in her ear. While investigating, Avery thought it kinda hurt and silly me thought it was just hard wax. Nope. It was her PE tube.
NICE.
Coincidentally, yesterday was the impedance screening at the Elementary--the test to see how the eardrum moves. Cora passed just fine, but not Avery. Her right ear has a hole in the eardrum (from the fallen tube) and the left eardrum barely moved. :( {The left ear wasn't healed enough to place a tube last spring}

Not good, not good at all. We are going to get her another hearing test and I will make an appointment with the ENT. I'm guessing we are looking at ear tubes--round THREE!!!!!!!!!!
To make matters worse, Avery lost her favorite kitty Daisy/Day-Z. Last week, I found the deceased cat on the patio, thankfully before the kids came home from school. Nothing was said and I searched for a look-a-like....to no avail. So, with Avery noticing that Daisy/Day-Z "ran-away", I just got her a random cat from one of Jason's friends. She assumes that Sparkles just "showed-up" but she now is grieving over not having Daisy/Day-Z. The worst is that she previously lost her cat Chloe! The girl still cries over her and wants to go to Heaven to be with Chloe!
Oh the DRAMA. (and again, why does Avery always get the short end of the stick? Cora bragged that she still has all her kitties! What a stinker!)
Every mom wants her kiddos to be happy and healthy. Seems like that isn't always easy, but we try.To make matters worse, Avery lost her favorite kitty Daisy/Day-Z. I shouldn't even mention our wet weather, but we all should pray for the farmers that haven't been able to harvest their crops yet this season. What a year!
My goal is to work harder at counting my blessings and not naming my problems. Until next time....
