ENT visit

Thursday, April 9th was a visit to the ENT. It was time for a follow up, but I also knew the girls were having ear trouble. Avery and Cora have had runny noses for months and at a ped check-up I was told Avery's ear tubes were out and fluid was on her left ear.

Brock was nominated by the girls to go first. Imagine that. His tubes obviously were working about a month ago when I noticed the drainage from both ears. The ENT confirmed that both ears looked great and tubes are in place. We will keep them indefinitely.

Thankfully, Jason was in the Galesburg area and arrived to the ENT office to watch Brock in the waiting room as Cora was "victim" number 2. I was in the exam room with both girls, Cora on my lap....... Oh my goodness was she a psycho kid! The moment the Dr. came at her with the otoscope she flipped out. Kicking and screaming, writhing around. It truly is amazing at the strength this little girl possesses! I worked up a sweat trying to keep her on my lap and from running out the door! The ENT saw enough to say she had fluid on her ears and both tubes were out. Hence the runny nose for months. She will need tubes placed again.....

Finally, Avery was up for the exam. Poor girl was so traumatized from listening and watching Cora, she didn't know if she wanted to get looked at or not! Cora had the entire clinic wondering what torture method the Dr. was performing. Avery did cooperate very nicely and again I was told she had fluid not only on one ear but now both. Her tubes from last year were out and she requires another set placed.

At the end of the appointment we were unable to get the date of the surgery.....I am still waiting! We need to get it ASAP so my girls can start hearing again! My months of yelling and repeating myself were justified at yesterday's appointment......the girls may still be ornery 4 yr olds, but some of their behavior I can't help but think was due to decreased hearing ability.

In addition to the tube surgery for Avery and Cora, I requested a hearing test for Brock. Since he lacks the communication skills and cognitive ability for a traditional hearing test, I asked for an ABR test. The ENT told me they didn't perform it there in Galesburg, but was happy to refer us to Peoria. I also am waiting for that appointment to be scheduled. I'll update the blog when I have more details.

In the meantime keep checking back for some Easter pics. Saturday is an egg hunt and egg coloring with cousins and it is supposed to be decent weather! Hopefully better than the rainy, cold day today.....
Happy Easter!

Oh joy! More exposure to the medical profession! ;-( Let's hope they have figured out the difference between otic and oPtic by the time the girl's have their procedures!

As usual --- (((Hugs))) and love to all!
