Frustration is my word of the day/week.
Brock had been making progress, so I thought, with his standing. My goal was to get him in the stander more because his hip muscles were tight and needed to be stretched after all the sitting and strange positioning following his foot/ankle surgery. Brock did really well but kept getting tight and very sore in his hips! The other day I got him all the way up in the stander and he SCREAMED! The rage set him into a seizure.
The fits continued (as did the small seizures) with Brock's varying positions. All signs pointed to hip pain.
I made an appointment Thursday for Brock to see his pediatrician. When she saw how much pain Brock was in, she ordered x-rays to be done on his hips. By that afternoon, I received a call with results. The report showed BOTH hips were dislocated.
That would definitely cause pain.
Back on May 5th, when Brock had x-rays on his feet/ankles, I also had them take hip x-rays. At that time the Dr. said B's hips were not the best and surgery was in his future--likely a year or two in the future.
Last night, a diaper change set Brock off. He screamed like I have never heard him scream. I was able to finally comfort him by rocking, only to watch him have about a 2 minute seizure.
This hip pain has to be excruciating because I've always thought Brock to have a pretty high pain threshold considering all he has endured.
After last night's seizure, I call his neurologist CNP and we discussed how to keep Brock comfortable over the weekend since it looked like nothing was going to happen until Monday....... Positioning and a sizable dose of Motrin seems to be taking the edge off and I also have some Valium left from his surgery that I may use if needed. OK, really should have written Brock may use if needed. (Sometimes I wonder if I need something to take the edge off?! LOL)
I don't know what the plan is yet. Our local hospital was to send the x-rays to the Ortho Dr. and they could compare these recent x-ray to those taken in May.
Apparently, I live in the "instant gratification age" because I really thought there was a FAST way of sending x-rays now. Like e-mail??? Whatever the options may be, Brock's x-rays are currently somewhere in snail-mail. Not even overnighted!?!?!?!?
My goal is to keep Brock comfortable and hopefully soon figure out what we are going to do about correcting the hips. I knew we would have to deal with this issue one day......I just didn't envision I would be contemplating a surgery while Brock was still in casts only 4 weeks after a surgery!!
********More updates to come when I hear something from the Orthopedic surgeon.
